Welcome to the USS Cardinal!

Greetings! My name is Canaan Serine, and I wanted to personally welcome you on board the USS Cardinal. Yeah, I know, she may not seem like much when compared to` one of those new and shiny Odyssey or Insignia-class starships, but she's something special to those who call her home.

Like her namesake, the Cardinal is small, maneuverable, and especially fast. Most of all, though, it has everything a geek could ask for! That's right, this little bird recently underwent its first refit cycle, and Starfleet's Corps of Engineers jam-packed every square inch of the place with everything needed to hold us over during our extended missions.

Oh, yeah, that reminds me - look, we're not planning on returning to Federation space for some time. If you're interested in signing on, you should spend what little time we have left in spacedock with your loved ones because, well, honestly, I'm not sure when you'll see them again.

Our missions take us to the furthest reaches of unexplored space, and it can get a bit lonely being separated from those we care about for years at a time. That's why every team member is more than just a colleague; we're family. So, when you sign up, make sure you're ready to commit yourself to all that this entails. This life isn't the right fit for everyone, but for those that make up our crew, there's nowhere else we'd rather be.

Our roleplaying game is a proud member of the Pegasus Fleet sim community and was founded in the year 2020.

» IMPORTANT - Crew Nominations, January 2021

Hello there, Cardi's;

I hope that each of you is enjoying this most excellent Saturday!

We are just under ten (10) days away from the end of January and I wanted to start thinking about Crew Award Nominations, namely the Player's Choice Award and Post of the Month nomination.

Player's Choice Award: This award is voted on by the players to recognize one of their peers for outstanding In-Character (IC) or Out-Of-Character (OOC) work on the sim. Click Here to cast your vote on which player you believe is most deserving of this award for January 2021.

Post of the Month: You can submit your nominations for this award through the award nomination feature of your control panel. Nominations are due no later than 2021-01-31 so that we can vote as a group on which post we would like to submit with my monthly report to admiralty on 2021-02-01.

Aside from the above, you are welcome to submit nominations for any of the other available awards found HERE!

I know it's still a bit early, but it's never too early to think about ways we can recognize one another!

Kindest Regards,

» Happy 2021 - RPG Update

Posted on Tuesday January 12, 2021 @ 2:20pm by Canaan Serine in General News

Good Afternoon and Happy Tuesday, Fellow Cardi's;

I want to begin our January update by wishing each of you a very happy new year and welcoming you to 2021. The last year was an unexpected roller coaster of epic proportions, and, for many of us, 2021 is off to a similar start. Regardless of what the new year has in store for us, we can support one another through the challenges while also celebrating our successes.

Next, I would like to discuss the current status of the Cardinal. As anticipated, our activity level decreased during the holiday season. Like most of Pegasus Fleet, our primary focus was reconnecting with loved ones in celebration during these unprecedented times. That said, we managed nine (9) posts in December, averaging 1.5 posts per player. Although this is a decrease in our average from prior months, it is a decent showing of activity given the holidays. These nine (9) posts also resulted in our being the recipient of the Task Force 56 Sim of the Month. Congratulations, my friends, as this is the third time our RPG has received this honor (September, November, and December)!

On the subject of activity levels, I know that a few of you are waiting on a reply from me in the main mission. Rest assured, I will have one out very soon and encourage you to take advantage of our Lower Decks - Season 1 mission, where you have the opportunity to revel in a bit of character development. I wanted to offer a sincere thanks to Mav, who has jumped right in introducing us to more of Trinity [PC] and Samantha [NPC].

Moving on, the website received several updates in December. The vast majority were minor in nature, although I did reorganize a bit of the layout. Here is a changelog of all website updates for those interested - Otherwise, skip ahead.

Website Updates
>> Reorganized the website’s main navigation menu:
> Changed ‘Home’ to ‘Welcome’
> Changed ‘The Expedition’ to ‘Crew Manifest’
> Added ‘Ship’
> Changed ‘Ship’ to ‘The Expedition’
> Removed ‘Pegasus Fleet’
> Removed ‘Chat with Us’
> Added ‘LCARS Database’

>> Reorganized the website’s sub-navigation menu:
> Changed ‘News’ to ‘FNN’ (Welcome)
> Moved ‘Stats’ from ‘Welcome’ to ‘The Expedition’
> Removed the links for each of the ships in Task Force 56 (Welcome)
> Added ‘Chain of Command’ (Crew Manifest)
> Added ‘Mission Groups’ (The Expedition)
> Moved ‘Mission Database’ to ‘The Expedition’
> Moved ‘Specifications’ to ‘The Expedition’
> Moved ‘Deck Listing’ to ‘The Expedition’
> Moved ‘Tour’ to ‘The Expedition’
> Moved ‘Awards’ to ‘The Expedition’

Other Website Updates
> Moved ‘RPG Achievements & Awards’ from the ‘Welcome’ page to ‘The Expedition’ page
> Updated each character’s rank image on the ‘Crew Manifest’ page to remove their rank pips (this will be elaborated on in Episode 3)
> Added Ishacarr Am’nim to the NPC manifest
> Updated each NPC character name to include the PC character they are linked to
> Added ‘Starship History,’ ‘Area of Operations,’ and ‘Task Force Assets’ to ‘The Expedition’ page
> ‘Task Force Assets’ includes links to each of the RPG’s in Task Force 56
> Added ‘The Tanzathyst Expanse’ and ‘The Tanzanite Species’ articles to the ‘LCARS Database’
> Made various spelling and grammar edits throughout the month

Phew! I am pretty happy with where the website is at, for the most part, so you should not see a large number of website updates in the future - Hopefully only a few.

Okay, so, with all of that administrative stuff out of the way, it is time to celebrate our achievements!

Post of the Month - Cardinal
Congratulations to each of us for our joint post "Awakening - Tributary Part 4" being nominated for the Post of the Month - Cardinal award! Although our post was not selected as the winner of the Pegasus Fleet Post of the Month, it was the recipient of the Task Force 56 Post of the Month. Way to go, my friends!

That wraps up our sim-specific awards; however, the new year delivered other ways in which our gameplay was acknowledged... this time, at the fleet level!

> The Pegasus Fleet Exemplary Service Award. This award is presented at the discretion of the Pegasus Fleet Admiralty (PFA) to recognize outstanding service to the fleet as a whole. The 2020 Exemplary Service recipients included Lieutenant Commander Canaan Serine, Expedition Leader of the USS Cardinal and Task Force 56 Commanding Officer.

> The Task Force Sims of the Year. This award is given to the sim in each task force based on their cumulative monthly performance throughout the past year. The winners for each task force included the USS Cardinal and USS Vesta from Task Force 56!

> The Pegasus Fleet 2020 New Commanding Officer of the Year. The members of the Pegasus Fleet select this award recipient. This year, the PFA was blown away by the number of responses to this poll. Thank you so much to each of you for making your voice heard by casting your vote! the recipient of this award is Lieutenant Commander Canaan Serine, Expedition Leader of the USS Cardinal and Task Force 56 Commanding Officer.

My friends, I cannot adequately express how much the above recognition means to me as a GM. Although we write with one another as a hobby and fun means of escaping real-life rigors, it is always nice to acknowledge the love you pour into that hobby. True, we do not do this for the awards or accolades, but they do not hurt in the slightest, either. You each are truly amazing, and I am beyond proud to have the opportunity to weave our stories together. Thank you for helping to make the USS Cardinal a remarkable and special RPG to be a part of!

And that, my friends, wraps up our game updates for January 2021!

As always, please let me know if you have any questions or if there is anything I can do to help!

Warmest Regards,

» Welcome To December - RPG Update

Posted on Wednesday December 2, 2020 @ 12:28pm by Canaan Serine in General News

Good Morning and Happy Wednesday, Cardi's;

Welcome to December! Can you believe we are in the final month of 2020? And what an unprecedented year it was. We have each faced tremendous challenges that forced us to adapt to ever-changing circumstances and conditions quickly. We muddled through the best we could while trying to remain hopeful and optimistic. Like several of you, I turned to role-play as an escape from the trials and tribulations of real life. A chance to share in a love of Star Trek and collaborative writing, I am grateful it brought us together as players and, I hope, as friends. I cannot say what awaits us in 2021, but I am confident that what lies ahead, we can rely on one another for a bit of support and encouragement!

That said, November was an excellent month for our game. We increased our posts per month from 40 in October to 46 in November, which is a steady pace when one considers the holiday season. This translates to an average of 7.67 posts per player in November versus 6.67 in October. What I'm super encouraged by isn't necessarily the average posts per player, but the quality of the writing and story-progression we've accomplished in a very short time.

We've reached the climax of our current episode, and our characters will face a rather daunting challenge as the story progresses. I plan on opening up the second half of this mission for some character development opportunities, which we can discuss in our Discord chat. However, the anticipation is that we are on pace to complete this episode by the end of December, although there's always flexibility based on overall participation and activity levels.

I've started plotting Episode 3 and would like to know if you want to keep going with another mission or take a bit of shore leave? Let me know your thoughts in our Discord chat.

Finally, I'm thinking about opening up recruitment for two of the four civilian scientist positions. I've had several individuals reach out with expressions of interest in joining our game and would love to explore this opportunity so long as everyone agrees. I love that our game is a small group of players, as this Invites us to navigate opportunities for character development on a more intimate basis. What do you guys think? Keep it as is or invite a few more to join us?

Alrighty, now onto my favorite part - awards!

Game Manager's Merit
Lieutenant JG Trinity Anderson joined our role-playing game on Friday, August 21, 2020. Since becoming a player, Trinity has remained an active participant, producing 23 In-Character (IC) contributions, comprised of seven (8) solo posts and sixteen (16) joint posts. Trinity was the recipient of the Player's Choice Award in October 2020 and has had two different posts nominated for the Pegasus Fleet Post of the Month Award in October and November. Although Trinity is a relatively quiet member of the Out-Of-Character (OOC) community, this is largely attributed to her hectic real-life responsibilities. Regardless, Trinity has consistently been an active member of the RPG, responding to tags and growing her character. Trinity's dedication is evident in her high-quality contributions and the way she continuously looks for ways to develop her character and interact with others IC. We are so proud of Trinity and value her as a player. That said, I am thrilled to award her with the Game Manager's Merit award for her exceptional IC performance. Congratulations, Trinity!

Post of the Month - Cardinal
Congratulations to Lieutenant Madeleine De Saint Castine for their post entitled Awakening - Tributary, Part 4 being nominated for the Post of the Month - Cardinal award! Their post was one of two nominations received and is the post selected for the RPG's nomination for Pegasus Fleet's Post of the Month Award. Way to go, Maddie!

Player's Choice Award
Congratulations to Lieutenant JG Trinity Anderson! Our players voted, and your peers recognized you for outstanding In-Character (IC) and Out-of-Character (OOC) work on the sim in November 2020! Way to go!

Character Development Award
I am proud to award Lieutenant JG Trinity Anderson the Character Development Award. In Trinity's posts entitled: Contradictions, New Chapter, New Journey, Family Matters, Orbital Skydive, Part's 1 and 2, A World Away, and First Assignment, Parts 1 and 2, we have learned a tremendous amount about the deep, physical trauma she endured when evacuating the Federation freighter and her subsequent recovery. We learned how very close Trinity is to her family - Her Mother and Brother, especially, both of who also serve in Starfleet, as well as hints about who her father was and their relationship.
Trinity has carefully crafted a dynamic character that others find kind, thoughtful, smart, and resilient. It is a sincere pleasure learning more about Trinity's past, present, and future!

It gives me sincere pleasure to award Lieutenant Madeleine De Saint Castine with the Character Development Award for her posts entitled Dreaming and Spill Your Guts, Kid, Parts 1 and 2. In each post, we glimpse the trauma of Maddie's past during her service on board the Katherine and Komorkis. There's a tangible richness to the physical and psychological pain and suffering that Maddie has endured and continues to harbor, that you cannot help but feel hurt in your heart for the character's loss. The simple yet direct delivery in Maddie's writing style immediately draws you in, offering just enough to allow your imagination to fill in the rest of the picture. There were moments when writing Spill Your Guts, Kid, when I teared up learning more about Maddie's loss. I am so very thankful to have such a skilled and practiced writer in Amethyst, who has introduced a sincere character that you cannot help but love. Congratulations, Maddie!

Treknobabble Citation
Congratulations to Lieutenant Arminius Baiua for being awarded the Treknobabble Citation for their use of science-geek-speak in the post Do You Smell That?!

I am so excited to award Lieutenant Ewo'tOst' Merrova with the Treknobabble Citation for their wonderful use of this verbosity in their posts entitled, Departure Stations, Those First Few Moments, Event Horizon, Awakening, and Recovery.

And that, my friends, wraps up our game updates for December 2020!

I cannot express enough, how very grateful I am to each of you, who have made it a true joy to write with.

As always, please let me know if you have any questions or if there's anything I can do to help!

Warmest Regards,

HowTypicallyHuman

» IMPORTANT - Crew Award Nominations

Posted on Friday November 20, 2020 @ 2:33pm by Canaan Serine in General News

TGIFriday, Cardi's;

Can you believe that we are just ten short days away from the end of November? Before we know it, the December holidays will be upon us, and then it's a short jaunt to 2021! Wow, has this year just flown by at the speed of light, right?

Well, with November quickly drawing to a close, I wanted to start thinking about crew award nominations, namely the Player's Choice Award and Post of the Month nomination.

Player's Choice Award: The players vote on this award to recognize one of their peers for outstanding In-Character (IC) or Out-Of-Character (OOC) work on the sim. Click Here to cast your vote on which player you believe is most deserving of this award for November 2020!

Post of the Month: You can submit your nominations for this award through the award nomination feature of your Nova control panel. Nominations are due no later than Friday, November 27, 2020, so that we can vote as a group on which post we would like to submit with my monthly report to admiralty on Tuesday, December 1, 2020.

Aside from the above, you are welcome to submit nominations for any of the other available awards found HERE!

I know it's still a bit early, but it's never too early to think about ways we can recognize one another!

Warmest Regards,

» Pegasus Fleet's Silver Sim of the Month

Posted on Sunday November 8, 2020 @ 7:14pm by Canaan Serine in Sim Announcement

Good Evening and Happy Sunday, Cardi's;

I'm beyond elated to share with you that we earned the Pegasus Fleet's Silver Sim of the Month award for October 2020!

Last month, our players contributed forty (40) mission posts. Whether solo or joint posts, this number of contributions resulted in an average of 6.67 mission posts per player (PPP). This average propelled the USS Cardinal to the second-place ranking, fleet-wide, for PPP. This is no small accomplishment and one that we should be very proud of achieving while being a fairly new role-playing game within the community.

Although we don't do this for the awards, I hope that each of you appreciates Pegasus Fleet's recognition of your commitment and dedication to exceptional story-telling and continued activity.

I, for one, am so very happy for each of you and our community. Let's carry on and look forward to writing some extraordinary adventures together!

Warmest Regards,
